How to help adjust your child’s attitude (Age 5 and up)

Sometimes as people we need an attitude adjustment.

My kids are human.

So some days, like other humans, they can get cranky, irritable, easily angered, or complain. As they got older and their writing ability improved, I began this one method of discipline….

Thankfulness Lists

I want to help my kids grow as an overall person and mature in the Lord. If any of my kids that are over the age of 5, need an attitude adjustment because they are exhibiting signs of ungratefulness, crankiness that leads to fights with their siblings, etc. I have them do these thankfulness lists.

I think that these lists help tremendously.

It forces them take a time out, regain their self-control, and reflect about how their life really isn’t all that horrible. If your kids aren’t old enough to write well yet, you can also have them draw pictures for their thankfulness list.

As an adult, thankfulness is something that I try to cultivate in my life. Ungratefulness and discontentment is something that can plague any of us. Thankfulness is something that my husband and I deeply value and want to help instill in our children. It helps realign our hearts to see the many blessings God has given us.

What do you think about my idea? Please share your comments 😊

This is such a wonderful idea! I have had my children give me a verbal list of what they are thankful for, but writing it out would make it more personal between them and God. Love this!
