My husband ran a half-marathon last weekend. I am so proud of him! This is a huge feat for any person, but I am especially proud of him because before training for this half-marathon, I had never seen him run our entire 13.5 years of marriage (I also have never gone for a run our whole marriage, so I guess this isn’t that insane;)).
I was telling my sister about my husband’s training and she said, “Tell him to be careful that he doesn’t injure himself!” Then I remembered how two of our friends got injuries right before they were supposed to run a half-marathon, but I figured my husband would be fine.
One day, my husband ran 10 miles with his friends and afterwards he said he felt amazing!
But then during his next run, his knee began to hurt during the first mile. Needless to say, I was inwardly pretty concerned. His knee began hurting doing everyday things, including when he walked up and down the stairs. I was beginning to feel bad that he was not going to be able to run the race he had been training months for.
One day during a prayer meeting, they prayed for people who were sick. My husband asked one of our friends to pray for his knee and the pain almost instantly improved! He came home super excited and shared that when he walked home and up our 3 flights of steps, he had no pain! Praise God!
Well, about a week later, another one of our friends who was training to run a 10K also hurt her knee to the point of having a lot of pain going up and down the stairs. This is a big deal considering she lives on the 5th floor of her apartment building! After a few days of her telling us about her knee pain, we finally got the idea, “Oh maybe we should pray for her knee too!” About 3 of us prayed for her knee to be healed. After we prayed, we asked her to test her knee on our stairs to see if it felt better. Initially, it didn’t feel much better. However, we prayed a second time and this time she said it felt almost completely better!
Both my husband and our friend were able to successfully run their races with mostly no knee pain. It took a few days for my husband to recover from his race, but now his knee feels normal again! Praise the Lord!
